Kim's Story
Kim Alverson spent most of her life helping others. When Kim was a child, she dreamed of becoming a nurse. She made that dream come true by serving as a labor and delivery nurse for 18 years, while also working in the nursery. Kim loved her patients and they loved her.
Kim was a loving and faithful wife to Travis Alverson for 29 years and best friend for 37 years. There wasn’t a day that went by without Kim showing her support, devotion, and love to Travis.
Kim also loved being a mom, and she was good at it. Kim and Travis were blessed with two children, Tyler and Kristen. She was so proud of her children and supported them in every way. She loved them so much. Kim’s influence is evident in their lives today.
Most of all, Kim loved serving the Lord. She became a Christian when she was a teenager. Kim put God first in everything that she did in life. Kim spent many years as a children’s Bible teacher on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights at her church. Kim was also heavily involved with the youth group at her church. She spent countless hours planning and performing activities with the youth. Kim was a great example of what it means to be a devoted child of God.
In March of 2022, at age 48, Kim was diagnosed with an aggressive type of colon cancer that had spread to the liver. Kim was a fighter. She fought hard for 22 months. In addition to her chemotherapy, Kim also participated in a clinical trial that studied a particular medicine designed to target her type of cancer. Kim’s oncologist told the family that Kim’s participation in the clinical trial, as well as the results that followed, will help many more cancer patients in the future. During Kim’s cancer journey, she kept her beautiful smile and her faith in the Lord. As a matter of fact, her Christian faith grew during her battle.
Kim was called to be with the Lord on January 22, 2024. Kim always said that when she “beat” cancer, she wanted to help others who are fighting the same fight. She didn’t know how she was going to help but knew she wanted to do something.
It’s because of Kim’s servant attitude and influence on her family that The Kim Alverson Foundation is in existence today. To God be the glory!
